About Us:
"Cliff Buzick, local contractor, purchased the Boone Bros. Lumber Company in Bardstown on Wednesday and had taken charge of the business. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
The company was organized in 1936 by J.T. Boone, Bardstown, & D.P. Boone, Leitchfield, who had successfully conducted the business since that time. The firm handles a large line of building materials of all kinds.
Mr. Buzick has been engaged in the contracting business in Bardstown for the past 8 years and has been engaged in construction and maintenance work for distilleries in Nelson and adjoining counties."
- Excerpt from The Kentucky Standard, Thursday, January 6, 1944
Cliff's son, Donald, served in the Navy during World War II, including nine months on Wake Island. When his hitch was up in 1945, he went to work as a 19-year-old in his father's business. He eventually took over the business from his father and ran it until 1992 when he turned it over to his daughter Susan Elmore.
In competing for the business of professional building contractors, Buzick Lumber, Bardstown, KY., has carved out a dominant niche in its trading area by providing the quality lumber and building materials and superior services that professional customers have come to expect from them.
Buzick Lumber and Home Center keeps growing with the customer in mind
There's a large, bright yellow arrow painted on the parking lot of Buzick Lumber and Home Center. Sure the arrow is to direct motorists, but, from just the correct angle, it points to the large, equally yellow letters atop the building, the ones that alert builders, homeowners, and even do-it-yourselfers, that Buzick's is a lumber yard and a home center. . .
. . . and a hardware store, plumbing outlet, electrical supply shop, garden center, paint store, cabinet center and much more.
There may not be room atop the building for all those letters, but once inside the front door, the customer realizes that Buzick Lumber and Home Center offers a variety of goods and services for everyone from the most skilled craftsman to the new inexperienced homeowner.
The business, which relocated to 1330 E. John Rowan Blvd. in 1987, had long been a leader in supplying lumber and materials to builders, and the expansion of the home center opened the doors at Buzick's to everyone in need of goods and services for a major project or a small do-it-yourself repair job.
Susan Elmore, president of Cliff Buzick Inc., noted that Buzick's has been in business for 54 years, and the direction business is taking mirrors the needs of the people in Nelson County.
"We stand behind our product. We stand behind our work," Susan Elmore said. "We're going to stand behind what we sell."
